FITCH
Height: 17.2 hh
Fitch has a stunning temperament that he undoubtedly passes on to his progeny. Natalie Hobday stated that during all of her travels through Europe and South Africa, she has never come across a stallion with such a temperament.
His owner, Britt Matchett from Dane Stud, says: “Having such a relaxed and easy stallion has been a blessing. He is so easy to work with”. He hasn’t competed much, but has done well in the few shows he has been presented in.
In the CDI show two years ago, he won the one qualifier and came second in the championships for the Novice class. He recently competed at the SA championships with rider Catherine Berning and had the highest average dressage score of the show. Catherine is adamant that he will go on to compete at Grand Prix level.
Fitch was selected as a young stallion at a foal auction in Holland in 2010 as a 10 month old weanling because of his beautiful, floating movement. He has been brought on slowly and correctly. We hope to see more of him in the future and wish him a long life of competition and breeding in this country.
We have great hopes that our Watermark Bonfire, his daughter, will go on to produce world class progeny. Fitch seems to be stamping his progeny through the damline, as both of the foals in his line have his colour and seemingly, size.
BREEDING
Fitch decends from the famous Fastrade-damline. He displays lots of suppleness, excellent posture and shows flexible gaits. Fitch’s strikingly beautiful sire Uphill was a prolific producer of top dressage horses. His dam sire, Don Primaire, is one of Holland’s best dam lines for dressage. Donnerhall, also in his pedigree was one of the most influential stallions in dressage of all time and needs no introduction. Wolfgang and Olympic Ferro in his blood, also need no introduction.
